Detailed item info
After getting Oscar attention for JUNO, director Jason Reitman turns to this adaptation of Walter Kirn's comic novel. Academy Award-winner George Clooney stars as Ryan Bingham, a businessman on the verge of reaching five million frequent flyer miles when his company decides to cut back on travel. But his goal isn't the only thing just out of reach: he now won't be able to see a fellow frequent traveler (THE DEPARTED's Vera Farmiga) who has caught his eye.

"Boasting one of George Clooney's strongest performances, the film seems like a surefire awards contender....It seduces with some of the most darkly hilarious moments to grace the screen in years."
Hollywood Reporter - Stephen Farber (09/06/2009)

"This is movie-star acting of the sort no one else today can bring off. Clooney and Vera Farmiga, as Ryan's sexy counterpart in corporate travel, are great together..."

Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (12/04/2009)

4 stars out of 4 -- "Artfully blending a breezy, blithe spirit with a darker social satire, UP IN THE AIR has one of the year's sharpest scripts and an exceptional cast."
USA Today - Claudia Puig (12/04/2009)

"One of the pleasures of UP IN THE AIR is that its actresses -- including Anna Kendrick, who plays Bingham's colleague Natalie -- share the frame with Mr. Clooney as equals, not props."
New York Times - Manohla Dargis (12/04/2009)

"[T]he brilliance of the central performance is its expansiveness....[Clooney] creates a contemporary character we haven't seen before, a blithely self-ironic spirit who knows, but doesn't care, that a crucial piece of himself has gone missing."
Wall Street Journal (12/04/2009)

4 stars out of 4 -- "UP IN THE AIR takes the trust people once had in their jobs and pulls out the rug. It is a film for this time."
