The White House Historical Association has donated substantially of its earnings from the sale of this guidebook to enhance the restoration work. It has made possible the purchase of historic furnishings; the redecoration of several rooms; and the restoration of the East Garden, which President and Mrs. Johnson have designed as the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
The Guidebook's aim is to make the reader feel keenly his own participation in the life of the President's House. the President hopes that as many Americans as possible will come here and see their heritage and will experience a renewed sense of the wonder and strength of the American tradition. He hopes that foreign visitors who are entertained here will, in these surroundings, sense our Nation's rich and stirring past.
